Preparing for Morning Outdoor Adventures in the Summer
For millions of us, summer opens up a world of outdoor adventures. The return of the summer sun means it’s time again for fishing, hiking, boating, or anything else that the rising mercury makes possible. That rising temperature, however, can be a bit of a double-edged sword. A summer day can go from beautiful to uncomfortably hot very quickly. Instead of facing the midday heat, head to your favorite fishing hole, beach, or lakeside in the morning. An early start can make for a far more comfortable adventure. With a little preparation, planning, and an investment in performance fishing shirts, it’s a great way to start the day.
Prepare the Night Before
Particularly when it’s not yet a habit, getting up early can be challenging. It helps to ensure you’ve gotten fully prepared the night before. Lay out whatever clothes and gear you’ll be wearing and bringing. Be sure the timer on the coffeemaker is set, and you’ve got your breakfast, snacks, and your hydrating drink ready to go. Be sure to tell someone where you plan on going, what you plan on doing, and when you plan to be back. If you think a preparatory mental pep-talk to inspire you for your early morning adventure would be helpful, give it a shot. Getting a good night’s sleep is, of course, always important.
Make the Most of the Morning
Everyone has a different morning routine, but when your alarm goes off, try to get out of bed right away. Don’t allow yourself to hit the snooze button or to be drawn in by electronic devices or any other distractions. The longer you drag it out, the harder getting out of bed can be. Organize and pack up your gear, snacks, and drinks. Before any outdoor summer adventure, eat some breakfast. If your preferred adventure leans more toward the athletic end of the spectrum, make it a light breakfast. Then get going!
Wear High-Quality Fishing Apparel
In much of the country, a summer morning, particularly before sunrise, can be a bit chilly. Remaining comfortably warm in the morning and comfortably cool as the sun comes up is best accomplished in a couple of ways. Look for some long sleeve high-performance polyester shirts for fishing, the kind that professional anglers on the tournament circuit wear. They provide you with full coverage in the morning to keep the morning chill at bay. When the sun’s up, their light, breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying design will keep you cool and comfortable. Packing rain-resistant outerwear and a hoodie in case the morning proves colder or rainier than you’d anticipated isn’t a bad idea either.
Pack the Essentials and Bring Extras
Finally, don’t forget to bring along a few essentials and semi-essentials. Always pack sunscreen with you. If your early morning summer adventure takes you onto unshaded open water in your boat, for instance, you’ll be glad you did. Take along more water than you think you’ll need. Whether or not you bring along a smart phone to be in touch if something comes up and to have a camera on hand to record your adventure is up to you.
